Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of StandGuard — the linter, the websites at standguard.dev, the browser playground, and any related services (collectively, the "Service") — operated by StandGuard Systems ("StandGuard", "we", "us"). By creating an account, purchasing a license, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of a company, you represent that you are authorized to bind that company, and "you" means that company.
Read this first — it is the most important section on this page.
StandGuard is a static analysis tool. It reads configuration files and reports mechanically detectable mistakes. It is not a safety system, and it is not a guarantee. A "CLEAR TO POWER" result means only that the checked configuration did not trigger the rules in the catalog — it does not mean the bench is safe. You remain fully responsible for engineering judgment, physical interlocks, procedures, and every decision to apply power. See Section 6.
01The Service
StandGuard provides a command-line linter that checks hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) bench configuration files against a published catalog of rules, plus a browser-based playground, documentation, and an open specification. The check catalog and bench configuration specification are open source under the MIT license. The linter itself is proprietary software licensed, not sold.
The Service is currently offered as early access. Features, checks, and behavior may change as the product matures. We will not remove material functionality from a paid plan mid-term without offering a refund for the unused period.
02Licenses and plans
- Solo — one named user, unlimited benches, $149/year.
- Team — up to ten named users in one organization, $449/year.
- Founding licenses — the first 100 licenses are sold at $99/year. That price is locked for as long as the subscription remains continuously active and renews without lapse. If a founding subscription lapses or is canceled, the locked rate ends and any later purchase is at the then-current price.
A license may not be shared outside its seat count. You may use the linter on any number of benches, configs, and CI pipelines within your organization.
03Accounts and payment
Prices are in US dollars and exclude applicable taxes. Subscriptions renew annually unless canceled. You can cancel at any time — see our Cancellation & Refund Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. We may refuse or revoke service for abuse, fraud, or violation of these Terms.
04Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) probe, scan, or attack the Service or its infrastructure; (b) attempt to bypass rate limits, bot protection, or license enforcement; (c) resell or sublicense access without written permission; (d) misrepresent the Service's output as a certification, approval, or safety sign-off; (e) use the Service in violation of applicable law, including export-control laws.
05Your data
The linter runs locally on your machine or CI runner. Your bench configurations are yours; the linter does not transmit them to us. The browser playground executes entirely in your browser — configurations you paste there never leave your device. Our handling of the limited personal data we do collect (such as your email address) is described in the Privacy Policy.
06Safety disclaimer — the linter is an aid, not an approval
Hardware-in-the-loop benches drive real current into real hardware. StandGuard detects a finite, documented set of mechanically detectable configuration mistakes. It cannot detect incorrect wiring that matches the config, incorrect configs that describe the wrong hardware, component defects, firmware defects, mechanical hazards, or any mistake outside the rule catalog. A passing result is never a substitute for design review, operating procedures, physical interlocks and e-stops, or compliance with applicable safety standards (for example IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO-254/DO-178C processes, or your organization's own safety case). The decision to energize a bench is always a human engineering decision, and it is yours.
07Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL DETECT ANY OR ALL CONFIGURATION ERRORS, OR THAT IT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
08Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STANDGUARD SYSTEMS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, HARDWARE, PROTOTYPES, CAMPAIGNS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; in those places, they apply to the fullest extent permitted.
09Open source and third parties
The bench configuration specification and check catalog are available under the MIT license at github.com/HanchoPOW/standguard-spec. The playground uses the open-source Pyodide runtime. Third-party components retain their own licenses.
10General
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and the parties consent to their jurisdiction. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced on the site and, for paid customers, by email, with changes taking effect at the next renewal. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cancellation & Refund Policy, are the entire agreement between you and StandGuard Systems.
